In the UK it is estimated that there are over 10 million people with a disability, that’s 1 in 5.  Their spending power estimated at 80 billion. Now ask yourself how many people visit your shop, restaurant, bed and breakfast, bar, hotel, meeting room, visitor attraction on their own? Not many??

Perhaps to the hospitality, tourism and retail sector the spending power is much higher.  So are you missing out on this potential income?Are you as accessible as possible? Could you do more? Does improving access mean spending more money? What information should I share? What does the law really say? Don’t leave things to chance

This course is aimed at anyone that provides services (retail) hospitality/tourism services.  This might be restaurants, shops, bed and breakfast, hotel, restaurant or ‘day out activity’

The session will look at:

  • How to make your venue/site more accessible
  • How to improve the visitor/customer experience
  • The law and how it applies to the visitor/hospitality sector
  • Stepping beyond the law, delivering best practice so as to ensure every customer feels valued
  • Understanding the challenges faced by people and how to overcome them
  • Valuing diversity why it matters
  • Looking at how better planning might bring more customers/visitors
  • How best to manage a situation on the day

Attendees will learn how

  • Understand the key areas of the Equality Law with respect to the sector
  • To make simple (and large) changes that make a difference to access
  • To confidently engage with people with a range of disabilities
  • To manage expectation of those visiting you
  • Recognise inbuilt prejudices, fears and how they might be overcome
  • Be able to identify potential barriers and ways to overcome them

In addition attendees will be provided with some useful guides and resources

Duration 3.5 hours with coffee and tea available ahead and during the session 10am – 1pm

Cost £40.00 per delegate
