Only 180 Remploy ex-workers are currently in employment following the closure of a number of Remploy factories. This is 12 per cent of those made redundant. Out of a redundant workforce of 1,500, more than 1,000 ex-workers took up the Government’s offer of one-to-one employment support and advice on moving to mainstream work from more than 200 dedicated advisers.
The remaining 500 ex-workers affected by the closures either decided to retire or did not take up an offer of the employment support package.
Of the 1,000 ex-factory workers who chose employment support to find another job, more than 210 found work though the number currently in employment is almost 180. Almost 240 are in training.
