FORGE is a new Pop-Up Shop setting up in empty premises across Telford and Wrekin. FORGE is a new community based project that will promote local and artisan providers and small businesses in Shropshire through a high street premises.  In its first year it is proposed that the shop will move site every 3-4 months across Ironbridge, Wellington, Madeley and Oakengates.   Whilst promoting and selling local arts and craft it will be attracting people in by selling Refreshment and local produced foods along with creative workshops all within a fresh and industrial interior design approach.

FORGE

FORGE is a new Pop-Up Shop setting up in empty premises across Telford and Wrekin. FORGE is a new community based project that will promote local and artisan providers and small businesses in Shropshire through a high street premises.  In its first year it is proposed that the shop will move site every 3-4 months across Ironbridge, Wellington, Madeley and Oakengates.   Whilst promoting and selling local arts and craft it will be attracting people in by selling Refreshment and local produced foods along with creative workshops all within a fresh and industrial interior design approach.

Current plans are for FORGE to have one manager, part-time paid support on days not worked by the manager and support from volunteers/artists.

FORGE will be operated by Wave-length Social Marketing CIC Group and guided by an Advisory Group from within the local community for this reason FORGE will be itself run as a Community Interest Company that will feed its profits back into Wave-length’s community work.

 

Role Purpose

The Manager is responsible for the overall operation of FORGE, leading a small team of staff and volunteers to deliver this Community Based Refreshment and Arts and Craft Business Plan, resulting in high levels of customer satisfaction, community engagement, strong brand awareness and financial independence and strength.

This is a full-time role but we would look at shared options should this be appropriate and preferred by the desired candidate.

 

Principal Accountabilities

  1. To lead on the delivery and achievement of the strategic business plan for FORGE, whilst translating the business plan into operational actions which shape the development and growth of the business.
  2. To influence FORGE development through research, fresh approaches and implementation of the products and services which the FORGE provides, including pricing policies.
  3. To be responsible for the overall operation of FORGE including customer service, financial performance, facilities and stock.
  4. To develop the FORGE brand to provide exceptional customer service, which translates into the shop becoming a destination venue.
  5. To ensure that high standards are maintained in all aspects of the operation such as presentation and cleanliness, health, safety and food hygiene.
  6. To ensure the efficient and cost effective usage of all resources – human, physical and financial.
  7. To provide timely, accurate and operational focused reports for all agreed parties.
  8. To demonstrate responsibility and leadership for promoting and championing all aspects of equal opportunities by valuing diversity in all areas of work.
  9. To take responsibility for ensuring and achieving the objectives of FORGE’s Health and Safety Policy.
  10. To undertake any other duties in order to meet personal, team and organisational objectives following consultation with your manager.

 

Person specification

Someone who encourages and demonstrates creative thinking and then puts it into practice through new approaches that then improves performance. Helps others to understand and cope with change.

Someone that listens so as to understand issues and opportunities from different points of view, from customers, advisory groups and other involved with FORGE. Assesses and makes decisions that take account of both short-term and long-term implications

Solution orientated to produce and manage implementation plans, identifying the tasks, outcomes and resources required to achieve overall objectives.

FORGE will be a small but often busy place and therefore may at times feel pressured so someone able to cope with the demands of opening and running a café/shop in such a flexible environment is essential.

 

Experience

We are looking for someone with experience as the person in this role will be expected to help drive the plans for FORGE alongside managing the operations. We would therefore be looking for someone with experience in more than one of these areas:

  • Successful background in catering
  • Experience of running a Pop-Up Shop
  • Experience of management of a coffee shop
  • Experience of management of a retail location
  • Experience of developing and implementing a food and beverage range
  • Experience of developing business plans
  • Experience of working within a commercially orientated, fast paced and sales orientated business

  • Exceptional communication skills, with the ability to communicate ideas, issues and concepts successfully to a variety of audiences
  • Good organisational skills with the ability to manage conflicting priorities

  • Ability to display a real enthusiasm for food, arts and crafts and the need to support local businesses

  • Strong understanding of report writing and financial management

Qualifications

 

Essential              Intermediate Food Hygiene Certificate or above

 

Desirable            QCF/NQF Level 3 or equivalent

Qualification in staff development
